Please note, all trails and road crossings are open to the public! Ride with caution and share the road and trail appropriately. I repeat, all trails and road crossings are open to the public, use extreme caution, safety is alway the #1 priority! Please, please use caution and ride with respect for others! We will have signage present throughout the race course and volunteers at major road crossings to help mitigate risks. The event will be fully supported with aid station goodies from local businesses and mechanical support from our local bike shops. We want you to experience Duluth to the fullest! After safely and happily making it to the finish line, please join us at Chambers Grove pavilion for a post race beverage and food (included in registration). Later in the evening, we invite you to Ursa Minor Brewery for a post race celebration! First beverage is on us and we will be giving away plenty of goods from our sponsors! It is going to be a day to remember, we can’t wait to see you on the trails!

The Duluth Traverse is the result of a shared vision that COGGS and the City of Duluth has for a multi-use, singletrack trail that is purpose-built for mountain biking and completely traverses the entire length of the City of Duluth. Consisting of mostly flowing beginner-level singletrack, the DT connects extensive and more difficult trail networks in clusters at Lester Park, Hartley Park, Piedmont-Brewer Park, Spirit Mountain and Mission Creek. The Duluth Traverse race is about 45 miles in length. It consists of about 3750 feet of climbing and descending. Start at Lester Park and finish at Chambers Grove. For the safety of all, we will be implementing a 9 hour event cut off time. This means no finishers after 7:00 pm.

The Duluth Traverse is an urban mountain bike trail. As such, there are many road crossings to navigate. Majority of these are low traffic roads where slowing down and looking both ways will suffice. There are about 10 higher traffic road crossings that require increased safety awareness. These crossings will have signage and volunteers, but please use caution. Traffic will NOT be stopped during the event. These road crossings include Woodland, Central Entrance, Jean Duluth, Arrowhead, College, Kenwood, Rice Lake, Piedmont/Trinity, Cody, and Becks. We will be stopping individual race times at several crossings as described below. The GPX file will also provide alerts. In short, please use caution, we are sharing the roads and the trails. Safety is first and foremost. Traffic will not be stopped for this event and it is the responsibility of the participant to safely and respectfully cross the roads.
-
Parking is limited at both the start and the finish. We have partnered with Super One Foods in Lester for overflow parking near the start. The address is 5928 E Superior St, Duluth, MN 55804. Please park near the back of the lot to allow shoppers preferred parking. At the finish, we have partnered with Mont Du Lac ski area for overflow parking. The address is 3125 S Mont Du Lac Dr Superior, WI 54880. Both lots are within walking distance of the start and finish. We highly recommend all participants utilize these lots if you are able.
Unfortunately at this time, it will be the responsibility of the participant to organize their own transportation and logistics for the point to point race. Bikes are really expensive, and the liability of scratching your beauty is just not a risk we want to take. Partner with your fellow participants and car pool for the race.
-
With the expansion of participants this year, we will be offering two registration options.
If you would prefer a competitive day and race against the clock and others, we recommend signing up for the chip timed Race Across Duluth. Chip timed participants will be self seeded (in registration) into two seperate start waves. Wave 1 will start at 9:00. Wave 2 will start at 9:15. We will be timing the event using SPORTident Enduro Timing System. This system uses wrist chips to accurately time mountain bike specific events. This system also allows us to start and stop each individuals time at various road crossing to improve participant safety. We will also be having a timed “enduro” run in the middle of the race to crown king and queen of gravity. Returning the chips after the event is required. Any lost timing chips will incur a fee to the participant.
If you would prefer a supported full traverse ride with friends and family, we recommend signing up for the untimed Race Across Duluth. All untimed participants will start in wave 3 at 9:30 am. We will try and still post general hand timed results for the untimed registrants, but timing accuracy is not guaranteed.

Packet, number plate, and swag pick up will occur at Ursa Minor Brewing from 6 to 9 pm on September 5th. If you are unable to make this time, you can pick up at the start of the race. Please have a spot to put your event swag at this time.
-
We do these events for the swag right? Each participant will receive a sweet swag item TBD, various coupons and stickers, number plate, and food/beverages. Entry includes aid station food and mechanical support, finish line food and beverage, and their first drink at the Ursa Minor Brewing after party. And money still goes back to COGGS? What a deal!!
-
Chambers Grove is the place to be. Once you have finished your race, hang out with a brat from Yker Acres, beverage from Ursa Minor Brewery, ice cream from Love Creamery, and cheer on other riders. Registration packet will have info for brat, ice cream, and a beverage. If you would like another or family and friends want to enjoy a brat or beverage, they will be for sale at the finish line with all sales going right back to COGGS and the trails (can take both cash, card, or Venmo). Talk stories from the day, enjoy the outdoors, and celebrate a job well done. Join us after the event beginning at 7:00 pm at Ursa Minor Brewery. We will be presenting awards and giving away awesome prizes. Registration packet will have token for your first drink on us.
-
We will have awesome 3D printed Medals for award winners. Categories include Open Men, Open Women, Masters Men (55 plus), Masters Women (55 plus), Junior Men (under 20), and Junior Woman (under 20). Award ceremony will take place at Ursa Minor beginning at 7:30. We look forward to seeing you there!
-
Safety is of utmost importance. We will have first aid kits at each aid station and sweeps with some supplies handy as well. If you have a significant crash or issue, there is no better replacement than medical professionals. Please call 911. We do not have forma medical presence at this time.
-
Weather can be unpredictable. Unfortunately, if significant rain causes trails to close the race will be canceled. We can and will accommodate segment trail closures and will notify these accordingly, but there is no good alternative if the trail system as a whole is wet and closed. We apologize, but trail damage is no fun! If the race is cancelled, we will provide all registrants with a discount code for next years event. In the case of cancellation, we will provide some wonderful gravel options and still party at Ursa Minor Brewery with plenty of goods to give away.

Life happens! We all hate races with strict no refund policies. It is a drag! We want to help you come back to the RAD excited every year. So if something comes up, you can either transfer your registration to another free of charge, or email me at raceacrossduluth@coggs.com and I will send a refund for registration costs. 100% refund up until August 6th. 50% refund from August 7th to August 31st. All proceeds go right back to the trails, so if you choose to keep your registration, you can write it off as a donation!
